Why to choose this course?
The University of Siena dates back to 1240. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe, it is also one of the most prestigious and has always enjoyed high reputation. In our University, we take into serious consideration teaching and research in the worldwide scientific community. For this reason, we want to make more attractive our portfolio by instituting the Master’s Degree in Biotechnologies of Human Reproduction, whose teaching will be conducted in English.
In the last decades, the study of the biology of reproduction reached a primary importance and enabled the development of advanced techniques to handle the gametes in vitro and to perform assisted fertilization. In this scenario, it is necessary a new professional figure that manages laboratories of medically assisted reproduction.
The growing requests for specific knowledge on human reproduction and, in particular, the interest in the problem of male and female infertility, topics of extreme relevance, prompted us to create a dedicated course to prepare specialists in this field.
We hope that Italian students will seize this opportunity to join us and be determined to establish a new international community of foreign students arriving to Siena from different parts of the world, not only from Europe.
Aims of the program
The aims of the course are to form and graduate a highly specialized professional figure in the field of medically assisted reproduction through the achievement of all the knowledge and skills requested by the highest international standards.
The foreign students will have the chance to integrate with Italian colleagues and, in the local community of Siena, they will live an international and intercultural educational experience.
Our graduate students will have specific skills to handle human gametes and embryos, to perform assisted reproductive techniques and to run assisted fertilization laboratories and biological banks for cryopreservation of reproductive cells and tissues. For this delicate role, distinctive characteristics of the future graduates will be the respect for the dignity of the human beings and the conscientious care for the patients’ needs.
Why in English
It is well known that English is the international scientific language and the communication in English language is a real opportunity in order to enable the graduates to interact with the international academic community and access high-level scientific literature.
For these reasons, the English language will be used all throughout the course: in lectures, in practical training and in the exams, as well as in the final dissertation.
