This integrated course is held during the second semester of the first year. Although class attendance is officially non-compulsory, it is highly recommended due to the specialized nature of the subject matter, the lack of a single comprehensive textbook covering all topics, and the irreplaceable value of hands-on laboratory experiences and interactive discussions. While all course materials—including lecture slides, scientific literature, videos, and syllabus updates—are made available on the Moodle platform at elearning.unisi.it using an access password provided by the instructors, independent study of digital resources cannot fully substitute for direct participation in physical laboratory sessions.
Students are encouraged to approach generative AI tools responsibly and critically, adhering to the University of Siena’s guidelines for the conscious, ethical, and transparent use of emerging technologies. Such tools must serve as learning aids rather than replacements for personal academic effort, analytical thought, or independent work submission.
For all academic correspondence, students are required to use their official university email address (@student.unisi.it / @unisi.it). Students seeking accommodations or resources for specific learning needs can consult the official PDF guide available on the UNISI Inclusion and Disability Services Portal.

The course is held during the second semester of the first year. Attendance is not compulsory but is strongly recommended because of the highly specific nature of the topics covered, the limited availability of comprehensive textbooks on the subjects addressed, and the unique educational experience provided by classroom and laboratory activities.
The course includes lectures, active learning and discussion sessions, and practical laboratory activities. Teaching materials, including PowerPoint presentations, scientific articles, videos, and other materials used during the course, will be made available to all students for independent study. However, these materials are not intended to replace the practical experience provided by the course. In particular, practical activities require access to the teaching laboratories and cannot be fully replicated through independent study alone.
All information and teaching materials relating to the course will be available on Moodle: https://elearning.unisi.it/. The password will be provided directly by the teacher.
Students are encouraged to use generative AI tools responsibly and critically, in accordance with the University of Siena's principles for the conscious, critical, and ethical use of these technologies. AI does not replace the student's personal responsibility for the work submitted or the teacher's academic and evaluative judgment.
To contact the teacher, students should always use their institutional @unisi.it email address.
The PDF of the Guidelines for Supporting Students with Specific Educational Needs is available on the University of Siena website: https://www.unisi.it/disabili-dsa.
